S3 04 - Sangyin Podcast

Gino Shelile, John Paul Rugaba Season 3 Episode 4

ACP has had many online conversations, both nationally and internationally, but this episode is a first; our very first Zoom chat to China. This week Gino talks to fellow APVA winner John Paul Rugaba about his Sangyin Podcast.

JP is busy studying at the Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Wuhan in Central China, where he is one of an international student population of about 700, spread across various disciplines.

He started the Sangyin Podcast in August 2022, with the goal of becoming a platform for the African diaspora to share their stories with the world. The podcast has grown to became one of the leading African diaspora podcasts in the world and the largest African podcast in China.

In the ep, JP talks about the difficulties he faces as a Ugandan podcaster working within the Chinese online eco-system, dealing with guests, and his predictions for the future of podcasts.

The name “Sangyin,” means “voice” in Mandarin.
